The “Ecosystem Services” (ES) framework opens the door to common ground between ecology and the economy in the face of the challenge of planetary sustainability. The application of the available methodologies and instruments reveals both the high potential and the controversies related to this new approach to socio-ecological management. Based on the research and work presented at the XV International Summer School on Environment (ISSE) of the University of Girona (2015), this publication shows the main concepts related to the focus of ES and the results of the studies that are they deal with their implementation with the ultimate goal of changing the mentality and awareness of the population to the point of installing new socio-ecological values, ie the economic models in which they are they are understood as a premise of subsistence and therefore an intrinsic component of economic gains.
Joan Pons, member of INSTA, has contributed to this publication with an article on tools for the regulation of environmental services in Catalonia.
