Today we often hear the word “dialogue”. For example, for the “dialogue table” between the Catalan and Spanish governments, or for making a peace proposal between Russians and Ukrainians. But do we all mean the same thing when we talk about “dialogue”?

Surely not, and that is why it is important that each of the parties can express what meaning they give to it. If we look in the dictionary we will find definitions such as: “Dialogue is an exchange of information between two or more people. It can be oral or written”.

For INSTA, dialogue goes further, because exchanging information is not enough and we can fall into a “dialogue of the deaf”. For us, dialogue is a fundamental tool for environmental protection (article), and we identify three key elements to take into account:

  • It must be a voluntary act

  • That there is a clear intention to listen to and understand the other person

  • Use a way of expressing yourself that makes it easier for the other person to listen to you.

In the following publications, we will explain the methodologies we use and the problems we have encountered and how we have dealt with them.
