On October 3, 2025, the Lleialtat Santsenca of Barcelona hosted the second regional meeting of the COMUNES Project – Solidarity Energy Communities for a just, inclusive and equitable transition, promoted by INSTA – Environmental Legal Services.
The meeting brought together representatives of administrations, cooperatives, social entities and citizens to discuss how to make energy communities in Catalonia more inclusive.
Participants identified important challenges, such as the lack of diversity within the ECs, the low incorporation of the housing dimension and the dependence on volunteering. At the same time, key opportunities were highlighted, such as networking with local groups, collaborating with social services and taking advantage of projects such as DOMUS or electrification initiatives to reach vulnerable families.
The COMUNES project will continue with a meeting in Galicia and a closing event in Madrid on November 7, where the main results will be presented. The Solidarity Energy Communities are thus consolidated as a tool to unite energy transition and social justice.
