Joan Pons Solé, environmentalist and founder of INSTA, has been accepted as a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL) is a network of environmental law and policy experts from all regions of the world who offer their knowledge and services to IUCN activities. WCEL functions as an integral part of the IUCN Environmental Law Program (ELP) which includes close collaboration with the Center for Environmental Law (ELC).
With worldwide membership, WCEL not only takes the lead in its own projects, but also provides a source of expertise for the Center for Environmental Law and other parts of IUCN. The Commission therefore serves as the main source of technical legal advice to the Union, its members and its collaborating institutions on all aspects of environmental law. It supports the action of international governmental organizations, governments and non-governmental organizations to improve or develop the legal and institutional infrastructure that best suits the conservation of natural resources in the context of sustainable development.
